7 Broward achievers net $2,500 scholarships
Seven
outstanding Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) seniors were named
National Achievement Scholarship winners and will receive a $2,500
scholarship for their undergraduate studies.
Autistic students take flight in pilot program
A month ago, Ruth Goldman couldn't imagine taking her twins to the airport to board a plane. Her 11-year-old sons have autism
and don't react well to unfamiliar sights and sounds. "It just wasn't
even on the list," said Goldman, of Miramar. But this week, the two Silver
LakesElementary students sat quietly aboard a JetBlue airplane at FortLauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, amused by the small TV screens attached to the back of the
seats.

Airline, TSA, FLL partner to better serve children with special needs
JetBlue
took 15 children with autism on a special flight to learn how to better
serve kids with special needs. For the Silver Lakes Elementary School
students and their parents, every step of the air travel experience was
simulated on Wednesday for the airlines Wings for Autism program.
