Students give voice to their verses at poetry slam
Mix a love of poetry with technology and you've got a recipe to connect very different schools in one very modern poetry slam. Using videoconferencing, different groups of students gather about three times a week to perform their poetry. The virtual poetry slams are spearheaded by the Omari Hardwick Bluapple Poetry Network, which so far works with 26 Broward public schools.

Broward schools chief seeks 50 new buses, GPS technology
Broward schools may soon buy 50 new school buses and a GPS system in an effort to modernize a transportation department under heavy scrutiny after thousands of students were left stranded at the beginning of the year. Superintendent Robert Runcie plans to ask the School Board on Tuesday to finance the buses, which would cost $5.3 million, plus $386,000 in interest.

Salary increases for Pines charter teachers could throw system into financial urgency
A salary increase for 329 teachers could throw the A-rated Pembroke Pines Charter School System into financial urgency.  Pembroke Pines Charter School teachers recently won their battle with the city to receive a 2.9 percent salary increase for the 2011-12 school year.
