Broward school district won't eliminate zero as a grade
The Broward School Board rejected a proposal to make 50 the lowest score a student could earn, after it drew overwhelming opposition Tuesday. Parents and teachers said eliminating scores of zero through 49 was unfair because students who try but fail would earn the same score as those who turn nothing in. They said simply adjusting grades would not help struggling students and ultimately send the wrong message.

Support voiced for Broward school facilities shakeup
[ http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/ ]Broward County schools will likely eliminate most construction-related jobs, as a majority of School Board members say dramatic action is needed to fix the troubled facilities department. Broward superintendent proposes outsourcing facilities department
Arguing that its expertise and focus is the education business — and not the construction business — Broward’s school district is considering outsourcing much of its long-troubled facilities department. The proposal, in which about 40 of the department’s 65 jobs would be eliminated, is being pushed by Superintendent Robert Runcie, and comes at a time when Broward’s school-building activities have largely dried up under state budget cuts and the steady loss of students to competing charter schools. http://www.miamiherald.com/2013/05/14/3397735/broward-superintendent-proposes.html
