Broward gives final nod to teacher raises
It's official: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/broward/ Broward County's 14,000 teachers will receive their first pay raises in almost four years. The school board Tuesday unanimously approved the agreement between the district and the Broward Teachers Union that starting in January would hike wages based on experience. The increases will average 2 percent, plus one-time bonuses based on years of service, at a total cost of $12 million. The new salaries will range from about $39,000 to $71,000.

School project aims to make the world a better place
A three-day project at Pembroke Pines Charter High School culminated with a canned food drive and game event inspired by "The Hunger Games." The Thanksgiving week effort is the third school-wide project behind a specific theme, said social sciences teacher William Quigley. In 2011, the school had an event themed around the 10th anniversary of 9-11. Last spring, there was an event with the theme of life after graduation.

Broward schools construction chief resigns

The departure of Chief Facilities and Construction Officer Tom Lindner on Tuesday signals a move to reform how the district spends construction funds. Tom Lindner once vowed to change the culture at Broward’s troubled school construction department, but on Tuesday district leaders decided that Lindner himself had become part of the problem.  School Board members readily accepted Lindner’s resignation —and had the construction chief not stepped down voluntarily, he was likely to be fired. http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/12/04/3126265/broward-schools-construction-chief.html

Broward schools facilities chief resigns under pressure
Broward schools Facilities Chief Tom Lindner has resigned under pressure, after being accused of failing to fix his troubled department and even engaging in "rogue activities." His departure was the most controversial of three personnel actions involving top district administrators approved at Tuesday's School Board meeting. Joanne Harrison, deputy superintendent for educational programs, is resigning, while Gracie Diaz, deputy superintendent for human resources, is being transferred to a job overseeing grants.
